Parafed Auckland Appoints acting Chief Executive

Parafed Auckland is pleased to announce the appointment of Yann Roux, Business Development Manager, Parafed Auckland, as Acting Chief Executive.  Yann will assume his new role on 25 November 2019 following the departure of current Chief Executive Tom Smith.

Yann has been with Parafed Auckland since Feb 2018 and brings broad experience of marketing, communications and operations to our work for Aucklanders living with disabilities.

Since Yann joined us he has shown professionalism, creativity and a clear understanding of the strategic and operational priorities of the organisation. The board has every confidence in Yann’s ability to continue this over the coming months.

Outgoing CEO Tom Smith Said:  ‘There has been a real catalyst for change at both Parafed Auckland and in the disability sport sector. Yann has been part of that change and I believe will continue to grow and develop the excellent work of Parafed Auckland.’

Parafed Auckland Board Chair Kari Jones said ‘Yann’s enthusiasm and intuitive understanding of the goals of the organisation make him a safe pair of hands. He is a team player who will steer us through this period of change. We look forward to working with him.’

Yann Roux said ‘I am incredibly proud to be given the job of nurturing and building on the legacy of a leading charity that represents the best of New Zealand. Parafed Auckland is recognized as New Zealand oldest disability sport organization and I look forward to working alongside its people to take it to the next level.’

Tom Smith joins the Lion Foundation as Grants Manager.

CEO Tom Smith leaving

It is with great sadness that Parafed Auckland announces the departure of Chief Executive Tom Smith at the end of November. Tom will join the Lion Foundation as the Grants Manager in an appointment that recognises the skills, energy and enthusiasm Tom has brought to our organisation.

Tom joined Parafed Auckland in mid-2018 after more than 10 years’ experience working in the disability sector in the United Kingdom.

Since his appointment Tom has consolidated and grown Parafed Auckland’s position as the leading disability sports and recreation provider in Auckland.

“This was a very difficult decision for me and I would like to take this opportunity to thank both the board and the team who have helped develop Parafed Auckland into the successful organisation it is today. It has been a privilege to lead Parafed Auckland and I am hugely proud of what we have achieved,” said Tom.

Parafed Auckland’s Chair Kari Jones said “I am confident that Parafed Auckland will continue to grow and build on the excellent work that Tom has done since his arrival. The Board congratulates Tom on his new role and will seek to replace Tom in the new year.”

Neelam O’Neill - Shooting Para Sport Athlete
"
I was introduced to shooting as a kid, where my step-father and I used to shoot ice-cream containers and cans on family camps. I was then re-introduced to shooting at age 15, when I competed in the National high-school Small bore competition where we shot .22 rifles. My team placed top 20 and the following year my new team placed first. In 2011, I moved to Auckland for university and discovered air-rifle shooting through Parafed Auckland - Para Sport and Recreation.
I officially joined the Parafed Auckland Shooting Club in 2012 and began competing nationally in 2013. My first overseas competition was for an Australian Grand Prix in Sydney, 2014 and since have travelled to Australia (Sept, 2015), Thailand (Nov, 2017) and UAE (2019) for the World Shooting Para Sport World Cups.
