Wheelchair Tennis
Wheelchair Tennis is played the same as able–bodied tennis in all respects, except that a wheelchair player may hit the ball on either the first or second bounce. The second bounce can be either in or out of the court boundries.
There are four categories in wheelchair tennis; men–s, women–s, junior and quad divisions.
Classification
The only elegibility requirement for individuals to compete in wheelchair tennis is that they must be medically diagnosed as having a mobility related disability. They must have substantial loss of function in one more extemities that prevents them from playing able–bodied tennis.
- One class for athletes with a single/lower limb disability
- The other class is the ‘Quad’ class for athletes with an upper limb disability (i.e. C8 tetraplegia)
