Disabled Snowsports
Alpine skiing in the Winter Paralympics is identical to the Winter Olympics. Athletes in alpine skiing must combine speed and agility while racing downhill at speeds of around 100km/h.
There are four events for male and female: Downhill, Super–G, Giant Slalom and Slalom. Athletes compete in three classes, based on their functional ability and a results calculation system allows athletes with different disabilities to compete against each other.
Classification
- Athletes who compete standing, compete in one of seven classes, depending on their level of function.
- Athletes who compete on a monoski, compete in one of three classes, depending on their level of function.
- Visually impaired athletes compete in the same three functional classifications as the summer Paralympics.
