History

The Paraplegic Association of Auckland was formed in 1966 to foster games, sports and recreation for paraplegics and the disabled to cater for their general welfare. In that year the Association sponspored and organised a national team of wheelchair athletes to compete at the Commonwealth Paraplegic Games in Jamaica. Two years later the Auckland Association also combined with fellow Organisations to send a New Zealand team to compete in the Paraplegic Games in Israel. From 1966 until the present day, disabled sport is a major contributor to the sporting arena.

Aims and Objectives

The aims and objectives of the Association are to assist in the rehabilitation of the increasing number of physically disabled and so to enable them to resume their rightful place in society as active, independent and socially useful citizens.
