Cycling
In the Paralympic Competition, cycling is identical to the Olympic Games, with adaptations in place to meet the needs of athletes. There are sighted guides for visually impaired arhletes, hand cycles for people in a wheelchair or with severe lower limb disability, as well as modifications to standard bicycles for ambulant and cerebral palsy athletes.
Classification
- LC1: Athletes with minor or no leg and arm disabilities
- LC2: Athletes with a disability in one leg who can pedal with both legs
- LC3: Athletes with a disability in at least one leg who can only pedal with other leg
- CP5: Athletes may require assistive devices for walking and may have sufficient function to run, but have poor balance
- CP6: Athletes with all four limbs affected by involuntary movements
- CP7: Athletes with movement and coordination problems on one half of their body (i.e. hemiplegia)
- CP8: Athletes with minimal movement in one limb only
- CY: Visually impaired athletes
- Division 2: Cerebral palsy athletes, CP5/CP6 together (tricycle)
- Division 3: Cerebral palsy athletes, CP5/CP6 together (bicycle)
- Division 4: Cerebral palsy athletes, CP7/CP8 together
