Track & Field (Athletics)

The majority of Track & Field events in the Paralympic Games are adapted for athletes with a disability. Athletics has been part of the Paralympic Programme since 1960 and events are open to males and females in all disability groups. All the methods used for measuring and timing at the Paralympic Games are identical to the ones used at the Olympic Games.

Classification

The entire Paralympics athletics programme is available to all athletes with a disability, except for “little people” who are only involved in field events.

There are several classification sections, based on an athlete’s condition, where T (Track), and F (Field), refer to the type of competition:

  • T11 – T13/F11 – F13: Visual Impairment
  • T31 – T38/F31 – F38: Cerebral Palsy
  • T40 – T46/F40 – F46: Amputee/Les Autres
  • T51 – T54/F51 – F58: Wheelchair/Seated Athletes
